          For golfers, the most dangerous place to be during a thunderstorm is somewhere between the first tee and the eighteenth hole. Most golfers have experienced this situation at one time or another. All of a sudden you hear the distant rumble of thunder...so...you begin counting the seconds between the lightning stroke and the clap of thunder. Can you get one more hole in? Do you head for the clubhouse or wait until the storm gets closer and trust your luck? It's already too late! You're already in danger!

Lightning is the most dangerous and frequently encountered weather hazard in the United States with nearly 150 deaths and 700 injuries confirmed each year.50 deaths and 700 injuries confirmed each year. Nearly 20% of these lightning casualties occur on golf courses every year.

Lightning can strike out of a clear blue sky with no visual or audible warning. Fact is, thunder can only be heard within a distance of 2 to 3 miles. But lightning can strike within a distance of ten (10) miles or more. You should never take a chance believing that what you can't see or hear can't hurt you! Worse yet, over 60% injuries and deaths associated with lightning occurs after the storm appears to have passed. How do you know when it is safe to resume play?
